Winter's Casualties

Though this winter has not been particularly cold, we did have a few cold spells that were quite chilly! Not knowing its average full-grown size, I can only assume that he did not die of old age. Down by the pond to photograph other items, I nearly used this "rock" as a stepping stone until realized it looked decidedly un-rocklike. He's been dead for a while as he was frozen to the ground, had the smell of decay and clearly he is rather shriveled already. I hope he was the only unlucky one.

Hippity Hoppity

I caught our annual visitor having a grand time in the yard! Every year, I see them romping about either individually or as a family (babies and all!). They haven't destroyed the yard yet, so I feel no need to chase them away. They need to eat too. On this trip, this furry one nibbled away at choice, young grass, the ever favorite dusty miller and then....to save the best for last...tulip leaves. Even though the tulip leaves were yellowing post-flowering, it was still eaten. After the feast, the bunny splayed out to soak in some sun and take a nap...just like my cat! At first, it was a bit worried as I hovered close by with the camera but with no other menacing movements on my part, it ignored me. =P
