Chasing Skies
The spectacular comet McNaught was in the sky and getting brighter and brighter all the time as it approached the sun thus going from a bright nucleus to a very bright nucleus and spectacular tail! I definitely had to go out and try to witness such a phenomenal and rare beauty! No need for a telescope (which had been the case for prior lovely comets). Due to where I live, though, it was difficult finding an unobstructed western view that I could get to by sunset. Fortunatley, my favorite local astronomy spot was unobstructed *just* enough so that I could see the comet before it dipped below the horizong. My attempt to capture the comet failed particularly since I have no telephoto lens nor did I bring the tripod (doh!). My inability to remember how to fiddle with the manual settings on this camera certainly did not help as I was wasting precious time. =( In the end, I was able to capture my first sunset on this camera...or at least the orange of what remained of the sunset. This is overlooking MBUSA's headquarters (Ah, such cryptic abbreviations! Can you guess who it is? Their rivals are around the corner and down the street...).
